About Us

The Mocha Moms Solano County Chapter, formerly known as the Vallejo Chapter, started in January 2003 and was founded by our first President and Vice President, MM Tina and MM Yvonne, respectfully. We believe in the Mocha Moms mission and strive to support stay-at-home mothers of colors. We understand the importance of family values and are concerned with educational issues. We believe that our children are the future and recognize that it is essential to cultivate their gifts and talents academically as well as spiritually. We are an exciting chapter that envision ourselves as becoming an astonishing, well-known division throughout Solano County.

Our membership continues to grow and we have twelve members averaging two children per family.  Our moms are stay-at-home moms,  students and working moms all working together to meet and conquer some of life's challenges.  We are developing life-long friendships and are watching our children and Dads do the same.

Our moms get together once a month for the acclaimed Mom's Night Out.  A time to escape from our daily motherhood/wife duties and reconnect with self as well as develop lasting friendships with each other. We also have a Family Night bi-monthly which gives our Mocha Dad's a chance to build lasting friendships amongst themselves.  We have enjoyed fieldtrips with our children to places such as the Oakland Zoo, Steinhart Aquarium, Prewett Family Water Park, Small World Park and the Jelly Belly Factory.  It is truly a family affair and we want all of our family members to enjoy the benefits of this amazing evolution.

If you are looking to develop a kinship with mothers who can share your concerns about childrearing, family matters, financial matters, etc., we invite you to join us.  It is truly a wonderful experience to have a mocha sistah to lean on whenever needed.

History

Mocha Moms, Inc. began with the publishing of a newsletter called Mocha Moms in the hopes of connecting with other at-home mothers of color across the country. The newsletter was intended to encourage these mothers to feel good about their choice as well as to provide information to help them be the best and most important influence in their children's lives. The first Mocha News was distributed to over 100 moms across the country in the spring of 1997. From this newsletter the original moms decided to form a support group called Mocha Moms, Inc. The first support group meeting was held in October of that year, in Cheverly, MD. There are now over 100 chapters throughout the United States and the organization is continually growing and evolving to meet the needs of our moms, their families, and the communities they live in.

Mocha Moms, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Mocha Moms, Inc. does not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, sex, gender, socio-economic level, education, or religion. Anyone who supports the mission and purpose of Mocha Moms, Inc. is welcome to join.
